Nick Diaz has said that he would not fight anyone other than Bucky “Buck” Dent if the UFC does not change the UFC title-holder’s title status.
Diaz made the comment while promoting his upcoming fight against Nick Diaz at UFC 196.
“I have a lot of respect for Bucky, I respect him for his hard work and his dedication to MMA, but if the title of UFC featherweight champ is to change, then I would fight someone else that is a lot better than me,” Diaz said.
“The UFC is the best organization in the world, so it is my job to earn the title.
Bucky is the champion.
If I can’t beat Bucky I would not be fighting at all.”
Diaz, who won a title shot by KO against Ronda Rousey in the UFC women’s bantamweight tournament, has not fought since winning the UFC featherweights title in April, and his next bout is against Diaz at the UFC 196 event on July 11.
He has since said he would prefer to fight Diaz in a title fight at UFC 200.
Diaz said the UFC did not allow him to fight a top contender because Diaz is a title contender.
“No, I never was allowed to fight somebody that was a title challenger,” Diaz told MMAFighting.com.
“That’s why I’m trying to get back to my UFC roots, which is my first priority.”
